The Willamette Week Give!Guide hits the streets today and features 79 nonprofits participating in this great project in addition to Mercy Corps Northwest. To take part, you can give online through the Give!Guide website anytime between now and December 31st.

Aside from supporting job creation and small-business development in your hometown, there are extra reasons to give through the Give!Guide.

  1. The Mercy Corps Northwest Board has generously offered to match the first $2000 in donations made through the Give!Guide. This means your gift will have double the impact.
  2. Willamette Week is giving out cool prizes to all donors who give $50 or more through the guide. These prizes consist of huge coupons to be used at Portland-area business.
  3. If you aren’t sold yet, read the stories of people who have worked with Mercy Corps Northwest and see the impact we are having in the community for yourself.
  4.

Cool Stuff
Serendipity has it that the Give!Guide and The Portland Bottom Line launch on the same day – we’re so excited. Be the first to pick up your Give!Guide at the event.  In addition, one hundred copies of “The Portland Bottom Line” will be available for sale ($16.95, cash/check only, 2 laptops will be available for online purchases). The contributors to this book have generously selected Mercy Corps Northwest as a beneficiary of book sales. The more books we sell, the bigger the donation, so buy the book!

Also, enjoy some tasty snacks and beverages donated by the book’s contributors and other local businesses.

We’re in for a treat
The contributors to the book (small business owners striving towards the triple bottom line), will be at the event to share their experiences and forge new relationships. Enjoy a short presentation about the making of the book and the challenge of doing business in a sustainable manner.

About the book
Co-edited by Peter Korchnak and Megan Strand, and organized into 12 sections along the triple bottom line of People, Planet, and Prosperity, “The Portland Bottom Line: Practices for Your Small Business from America’s Hotbed of Sustainability” explores how small businesses can effectively and efficiently shift toward sustainability and thrive. In their short essays, 51 Portland small-business people share their experiences with sustainability in their companies.

We made it into the Give!Guide

Willamette Week has chosen us to participate in their annual Give!Guide effort. Last year, this community fundraiser brought in more than $900,000 for 79 local nonprofits.

The Give!Guide’s goal — and now ours — is to develop new donors for organizations like ours. Willamette Week puts a special emphasis on identifying new donors under the age of 36 — and provides all sorts of incentives to help bring this about.

The guide and its web site don’t go live until November 11, but we need your help to get a jump-start on this great opportunity.  In addition, Willamette Week will be providing about $100,000 worth of incentives to people who give.

Keep us in mind when you pick up your own copy of this great publication.
